 Layton's dad left him and his brother after their mom died to fend for themselves. Layton's brother passes away and his girlfriend Olivia leaves him the next day for another guy (total bitch right!).  Layton's hard life has left him broken and not trusting anyone. Then we meet Whitley who thought her life was going to be perfect when she moved to NYC with her High School sweetheart little did she know that was just a big joke.  Not long after the move to NYC her boyfriend starts hitting her. The last straw is when he puts her in the hospital leaving her broken.  Whitley decides she is going to leave and go to Texas with her best friend Courtney to start a new life.

 Layton and Whitley have a chance meeting when her car breaks down by his ranch. At first Layton thinks Whitley is a bitch. They pick back and forth but they are both attracted to each other.

I love Whitley's friend Courtney because of her love for books and she has every book worms dream job. Their friendship is easy to relate to because the stuff they say and do reminds me of my best friends that know everything about me. Whiley is attracted to Layton but she has a fear that all men are like her ex. After they have an argument Whitley texts Layton to apologize for being a bitch to him.

  Neither one of them wants to admit that they are attracted to the other. Olivia is starting to mess with Layton's head because she is jealous and not happy with her new guy. Layton and Whitley start to form a friendship by texting back and forth with each other. They start to hang out and do fun stuff like mud fights. Layton is totally my kind of guy, country boy with tattoos. After the mud fight they finally admit they have feelings for each other and sleep together. Things are going so good for them that Layton buys her an engagement ring and plans on proposing on her birthday. Everything seems to be going perfect until a mysterious guy shows up asking questions about the girls. The guy turns out to Whiltey's ex Roger.

  Roger gets Whitley alone in her house when she goes home to pack for her stay with Layton for her birthday. He pulls a gun on Whitley and beats her up. Layton put everything together and showed up just in time to save Whitley from being raped by Roger. While Roger and Layton were fighting he shot Layton. Layton was unconscious for days and did not wake up until Whitley birthday. Layton's proposal to Whitley was so romantic!! I loved how he thought of everything a country girl would love. Their wedding was every country girls dream! This story had a lot of laughs and was a very good read.
